How do ambulance services work in the NT?

If you live in the NT, you have to pay for being treated by paramedics and transported by ambulance.

You can find the current fees and charges for ambulance services on St John NT Ambulance’s website.

You do not have to pay for the service if you hold a:

• Department of Veterans’ Affairs Gold Card
• Department of Veteran’s Affairs White Card (in some cases).

Should I take out Ambulance Cover if I live in the NT?

If you live in the NT and do not fall into one of the exceptions, you may want to take out Ambulance Cover. In many cases, it is included in Hospital Cover or Extras Cover. Check with your insurer to find out whether your policy includes ambulance services.

Alternatively, you can purchase a St John NT Ambulance membership that gives you Ambulance Cover across Australia. If you hold Hospital Cover or Extras Cover, check with your insurer to find out whether they will reimburse you for this subscription.
