Background

Transport Health was established in 1888 to help Melbourne tramway workers pay for medical and hospital treatment. It gradually expanded to provide health cover to all sectors of the Australian transport industry.

In 2014, Transport Health became an open fund, which meant anyone could become a member. 

In 2021, Australia’s largest not-for-profit insurer HCF took over Transport Health. It now operates as a subsidiary of HCF but sells policies under the Transport Health brand.
