What is the Age-based Discount?

Reviewed and updated 3 April 2024

The Age-based Discount is a discount on the cost of Hospital Cover for people under 30 to encourage them to take out Hospital Cover.

If you are under 30 and your insurer offers it, you can save up to 10% on the cost of your Hospital Cover each year until you turn 41 when the Discount phases out.

To receive the Age-based Discount, you need to be under 30 and also maintain the policy continuously.

Insurers do not have to offer customers the Discount.

Insurers can also elect whether they will honour an existing Age-based Discount if you decide to transfer between policies.

The Age-based Discount does not apply to Extras Cover or Ambulance Cover.

If you have combined Hospital and Extras Cover, the Discount applies only to your Hospital Cover not your Extras Cover.
