If you have both Hospital and Extras Cover with the same insurer, your insurer may process these as one combined policy or as 2 separate policies (also called ‘split policies’, ‘second policies’ or ‘standalone policies’ by some insurers).
Some Hospital Cover policies can only be purchased with an Extras Cover policy, and some insurers offer Extras Cover policies that can only be purchased with a Hospital Cover policy, so these policies are combined.
To find out whether your Hospitals Cover and Extras Cover are combined or separate policies, check the Private Health Information Statement (PHIS) that your insurer emailed you when you took out your cover. The Policy ID is located on the bottom left-hand corner of the document.
If you have one Policy ID on both the Hospital Cover and Extras Cover policy details, you have a combined policy.
If the Policy ID on your Hospital Cover policy is different to the Policy ID on your Extras Cover policy, you have separate policies.
The healthslips.com.au Calculator can help you compare your existing combined policy and your existing separate or standalone policies if they are from one insurer. However if you have 2 separate policies from different insurers and want to compare them with other policies on the market you will need to do 2 separate comparisons on the healthslips.com.au Calculator.
