How to update my details with Medicare

Reviewed and updated 3 April 2024

How to update my name, date of birth, gender, address or banking details with Medicare

You can update your personal details (such as name, address, banking details, date of birth or gender) with Medicare in 3 ways:

Option 1:

Use your Medicare online account through your myGov account.

Option 3:

Call the Medicare Program on 132 011 (7 days a week/24 hours per day).

You need to notify Medicare in these cases:

  • Change of address, so they can send you a new Medicare Card when your card expires.
  • Change of banking details, so they can deposit money into your account when you claim a benefit.
  • If your date of birth is incorrect.
  • If a family member on your card dies.

How to update my details with Medicare if I am affected by domestic violence

To update your personal details with Medicare if you are affected by family and domestic violence, call the Centrelink Employment Services line on 132 850 and ask to speak to a social worker.

Medicare can also help you:

  • end an arrangement if someone else has permission to deal with Medicare on your behalf
  • transfer to a new Medicare card if it is unsafe for you to stay on your current card
  • update your personal details to make sure only you get payments and correspondence from Medicare
  • speak with a social worker who can provide free, confidential counselling.
