Reviewed and updated 3 April 2024

The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) Safety Net provides extra discounts on the price of medicines for pensioners and concession card holders.

You are eligible for an extra discount under the PBS if you hold a Medicare Card and one of these cards:

  • Pensioner Concession Card
  • Commonwealth Seniors Health Card
  • Health Care Card
  • Repatriation Health Card for All Conditions (Gold) (concessional patients under the RPBS)
  • Repatriation Health Card for Specific Conditions (White) (concessional patients only if you hold a separate entitlement from Centrelink)
  • Repatriation Pharmaceutical Benefits Card (Orange) (concessional patients under the RPBS)
  • Safety Net concession card
  • Safety Net entitlement card.

The further discount means you pay only up to $7.70 for PBS medicines.
