The Lifetime Health Cover Loading Base Day is the date the Australian Government uses to calculate whether you will have to pay the Lifetime Health Cover Loading.

If you permanently live in Australia, your Base Day will be the later of:

  • 1 July 2000 or
  • 1 July following your 31st birthday.

If you take out Hospital Cover after your Base Day, you will have to pay the Loading on top of what you are paying for Hospital Cover.

The Loading is 2% on top of the cost of your Hospital Cover from your Base Day for every year you are over 30 until 1 July before joining your health insurer.

If you are a new migrant to Australia or an Australian who has been living overseas, the rules about the Loading are different.

A quick and easy way to calculate both your Base Day and Lifetime Health Cover Loading is to use our healthslips.com.au Calculator.
