Members of Teachers Health and TUH are about to become part of the sixth largest health insurer in Australia.
The two not-for-profit insurers have announced they will merge next week on 1 July, forming a combined insurer that will cover 500,000 people, Teachers Health said.
TUH said the merger will bring some small benefits to its members, including a lower waiting period for pregnancy cover (reduced to 9 months) and adult dependants able to stay on their parents’ policies until age 32 (with conditions). It also said its name will likely change to Teachers Health eventually.
Members would not have to update their payment arrangements, TUH said.
Teachers Health and TUH are both restricted insurers. Teachers Health provides health insurance to people in the education, nursing and midwifery sectors and their families, while TUH membership is available to Australians working in education, union members and their families.
Members wanting more information about the merger should contact their respective insurer.
